Brian Rosenfeld, M.D., FCCM, FCCP, is an Intensive Care Specialist with over 30 years of experience in telehealth. He currently serves as a Board Member and the Executive Vice-President of EQUUM Medical. Dr. Rosenfeld’s vision and entrepreneurial drive brought to market remote intensive care unit management (eICU ®). In 1998, he co-founded VISICU Inc. and served as its Executive Vice-President and Chief Medical Officer. He was intimately involved in both the successful IPO of VISICU in 2006 and its acquisition by Royal Phillips Electronics in 2008. While with Phillips, he served as Chief Medical Officer of the Hospital to Home business and was also overseeing experimental clinical programs and the implementation of their coordinated telehealth platform until his retirement in 2017.
Prior to founding VISICU, Dr. Rosenfeld was an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, Surgery and Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He graduated magna cum laude, special honors in biology from Temple University School of Medicine in 1980 and then trained in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine anesthesiology, and critical care. During his anesthesiology and critical care fellowship at Johns Hopkins, he was selected as Chief Resident. Dr. Rosenfeld is responsible for over 20 U.S. and foreign patents, and the legal proceedings surrounding the protection of those patents. He also published over fifty peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
Dr. Rosenfeld has been recognized as a pioneer and leader in the telehealth field receiving the “Innovator of the Year” award by the American Telemedicine Association in 2007 and the President’s Award for individual leadership. He is currently chairing the National Emergency Tele-Critical Care Network (NETCCN) staffing and clinical resource committee to deal with the Covid-19 Pandemic.
